Today I had the pleasure of presenting “The concept of Ultra-processed Foods in Regulations in Latin America” during a webinar on ultra-processed foods (UPF) organised by the International Special Dietary Foods Industries (ISDI), sharing insights on:

– impactful international developments from the World Health Organisation, the Codex Alimentarius, the United States and the European Union, and

– regulatory and legislative initiatives to restrict the marketing of UPF across Latin America.

The proposed definitions of UPF in Latin America generally refer to products containing critical ingredients extracted from foods, food additives and those resulting from various manufacturing processes.

Furthermore, proposed measures targetting UPF range from restricting their sale and advertising in schools and public procurement to prohibiting their sale, marketing, and advertising, and including warnings about UPFs on front-of-package labels.
