The 31st Session of the Codex Committee on General Principles (CCGP) is meeting this week, 11-15 March, in Bordeaux, France to address general procedural and policy issues for the work of the Codex Alimentarius.

The CCGP has a key role in developing risk analysis guidelines and principles on fair practices in the trade of foodstuff, for the work of Codex and its Member Countries, particularly with the view of assisting developing countries.

Now, the CCGP is meeting after three years of inactivity with the goal of addressing:

  • general policy issues and their alignement with Codex strategic goals and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-Being.
  • current challenges impacting the work of Codex across its Commodity and General Subject Committees.
  • the improvement of the Codex work by correspondence contributing to enhancing the inclusiveness and efficiency of the process.
